WWJ..B?
Morgan Spurlock (the guy who brought us Supersize Me) has a new movie out called “What Would Jesus Buy?” in which he tackles how consumerism has gotten completely out of control especially at Christmas. Part of the movie he follows a guy known as Reverend Billy who is a caricature of a charismatic televangelist who is rallying the cause of the consumer revolution. I am excited about this movie because I think it will force me (and hopefully others) to reevaluate how and why we shop.
You can find a great interview with Morgan here on the Relevant Magazine Podcast (one of my favorites). It’s about 18 minutes in for the interview.
You can also visit the official website for the movie here

I agree wholeheartly that we have lost the real meaning of Christmas, to celebrate the birth of Christ. However, the movie itself is a real slap in the face of Christianty. The sponsers that support it are the very ones that would want to "free the world" of Christianty and have us worshipping the earth. Read Romans 1:18-32.
You may be right. I haven't yet seen the movie but am still very excited about it. From what I haved gleaned from articles and an interview from the producer, it is supposed to be tackling the "over-consumerism" of Christmas and not Christianity. I don't think this has to be a "religious" film to have merit, but I hope it isn't "Anti-Christian". I have actually heard feedback from Christians that they were challenged by this movie to be a more responsible consumers as part of living their faith.
I'll post again after I have seen it for myself.
