Hitting the Slopes (hard and head first)

We hit the slopes yesterday. It was mine and Kait's first time, and especially in my case, everyone knew it. The are plenty of John shaped indentions left behind though in the snow.

Baggage Claims

I read an ad today in a local paper for pets that need owners, cleverly called “Lost and Hound.” One caught my eye. It had a picture of a dog next to a vacuum cleaner which seemed odd, until I read that this dog had recently lost its owner and had since developed an “intense attachment” to this blue vacuum cleaner and wouldn’t be parted from it….ever, but nevertheless needed a home. I wondered if he slept with it. Maybe someone lays it on its side and he cuddles up to it. And then I thought to myself at least you know what baggage the dog is bringing into the relationship. I mean you can’t miss it; it’s a big blue vacuum for Pete’s sake.
Its seemed so risky to me to be that transparent. What if I introduced myself that way to everyone else?

Hello, my name is John, and by the way, I have confidence issues, an inferiority complex with men who have bigger hands than me, and a phobia of people who are too tan in the winter, so if you want to drop this here, I understand.

Would any of you still be my friend?

Lent (the good kind)

Lent is almost here (starts next Monday). Per my New Year's goals (posted on January 4th, see below) I am going to participate in Lent this year for the first time, but I still haven't finalized what I will be "fasting".
So if you have any ideas for me, leave a comment.
If you have any Lent stories, love to hear them.

Terminal

We met Jerry and Dana (nelle's parents) at the Charlotte airport for a short layover on their way to Haiti. J & D will be spending a couple weeks over there for some missionary work. Somehow we neglected to get a picture of them the whole time we were there.

What made the whole trip worth it was the treatment Jerry got from airport security. He just had a defibulator put in so he can't go through any detectors, so they pat him down. And they really pat him down. Outside the airport it would either be considered a deep tissue massage or making out.

Good luck J & D, can't wait for you guys to get back.
